Halifax
and South Western Railway Museum
Step back in time at the Halifax and South Western Railway Museum
just outside Lunenburg on The Lighthouse Route. An extensive S-gauge model
railway shows many of the stations and scenes along the H&SW,
including Liverpool and Lunenburg, as well as an authentic portrayal
of the station, roundhouse and yard in Bridgewater.
Location: Lunenburg is a quick 92 kms or 57 miles southwest from
the capital, Halifax.

Snow Country Music Centre
The
former Halifax & South Western station is located on Route 3.
The restored railway ticket office features local railway lore.
You will also see a replica of a water tank like those that supplied
the old steam engines.

Memory
Lane Railway Museum
The Memory Lane Railway Museum is filled
with pictures, signs and models from the bygone days of railroading
in the Annapolis Valley. Exhibits
feature scenes from the DAR as well as the CNR's intersecting line
from Bridgewater to Bridgetown. A crossing gate and railway trolleys
(speeders) provide interesting picture opportunities.
Location: Middleton is halfway between Halifax
and Yarmouth, each approximately 150 kilometers (90 miles) from
the Town.

Musquodoboit
Harbour Railway Museum
Examine the posters, tickets, maps and photographs in the Canadian
Northern Railway station of 1918. Don't miss the rare ex-CN GE 44-tonner
and the unique mail crane. A DAR combine from Nova Scotia's last
mixed passenger and freight train is another highlight.
Location: Musquodoboit Harbour is 40 minutes
from the City of Halifax, on the beautiful Eastern Shore of Nova
Scotia.

The Nova Scotia Museum of Industry collects, preserves and interprets the industrial heritage of Nova Scotia. Samson and Albion, two of Canada's oldest steam locomotives are part of the collection.

Orangedale
Station Museum
The museum displays various pieces of rolling
stock, a small diesel locomotive and a boxcar. The ground floor
of the station has a replica of the original agent's office and
waiting room and includes a small model railway.
Location: Orangedale is in the Ceilidh
Trail region of the Cape Breton Island, Inverness county.

Pier
21
For most
people passing through Pier 21, the next stage was train travel.
Visitors can step abroad a
recreated CN railcar and watch the Canadian countryside flash by
the train windows. Inside the railcar, interviews of actual Pier
21 alumni sharing their memories are
shown.

Sydney
& Louisbourg Railway Historical Society
The 1895 Sydney & Louisbourg station houses artifacts that tell the story of the S&L Railway. The collection
includes models constructed and donated by a former railway employee, rolling stock consists of two passenger
cars circa 1881 & 1914, a caboose, a boxcar and a tank car.

of Sydney and one hour from Glace Bay.

Train
Station Inn
Dine in an historic dining car and dream the night away in real
cabooses at the Train Station Inn. This Intercolonial Railway station,
one of the oldest in Atlantic Canada, opened circa 1887. Guest are
welcomed in the station agent's office and may stay in the stationmaster's
quarters or in one of the several attractively restored cabooses.
Delectable meals are served on railway china and unique railway
artifacts and photos are on display.
